Re: DREAM 2 Press Conference Photos
Marcelo Garcia vs. TBA?  The event is only what?  19 hours away?  They may want to think about filling that spot in.

Re: DREAM 2 Press Conference Photos
Marcelo isn't listed on the Dream website so I guess the list is outdated.

Re: DREAM 2 Press Conference Photos
I'm sure it is off.  I'm just saying...with the way that the Japanese handle booking fights it wouldn't be completely shocking for them to have just announced his opponent as he walked to the ring.

Re: DREAM 2 Press Conference Photos
haha oh wow...

What a shockingly ignorant statement...

Re: DREAM 2 Press Conference Photos
Dude...it was a joke.  We all get it...you love the Japanese way of doing things and to question it is blasphemy in your eyes.

Again, simply a joke based on the Japanese method of not announcing matches until the last minute.  Don't take things so seriously.

Re: DREAM 2 Press Conference Photos
:) I'm just playin' with ya anyway, doctor.

However, if BlEl continues to post unceasingly negative things about DREAM, the majority of which is wildly speculation based, devoid of any factual basis, I will continue to post the polar opposite opinion in the name of balance.

by AnonymousA on Apr 28, 2008 2:47 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Re: DREAM 2 Press Conference Photos
And if DREAM continues to put its foot in its collective mouth by putting out cards as signed, when it turns out they have been incommunicado regarding fighters, then calling them schoolyard names, BE will continue to post info that reflects the negative atmosphere that DREAM has fostered with their irresponsibilty, and you'll continue to make purposely contradictory statements, and continue to look like a goof.

And Bloody Elbow readers will continue to shake their heads at those who just run with a contradictory argument for no other reason than to be contradictory (with a dash of DREAM fanboyism to taste).

Re: DREAM 2 Press Conference Photos
I guess you haven't been following the conversation as closely as you think you have.

I've been putting my doubts on the reporting that has been done regarding DREAM, and infering that it is bloggers purporting rumors as facts that have been the bain of DREAM's, thus far short, existance, and not anything outwardly done by DREAM itself.

With your comment you only solidify my belief in that, as you are obviously less informed than you think you are.

Re: DREAM 2 Press Conference Photos
You guess wrong. I've been following the DREAM fiasco pretty closely, as I love the tournament format. And I'm not really referencing the blogs, but the facts of dream: The Aoki Calvancanti balls around, in the ring. Took a while to decide he couldn't continue. Continually promoting a guy who seems to say he's got no interest in continuing in a tourney, citing a fighter as "on the card", when he hadn't heard anything about actually appearing on a card. Calling a fighter a chicken and a 'lier' for saying that he had seen nor heard nothing official about being on the card.

It's DREAM's own operations that have been the bane (BANE) of their existence.

And with your post, you only solidify MY belief that your a know-it-all dick. So am I, and only as well informed as 10 hours a day at a computer with the internet allows me to be, what with the blog reading, video watching, and corresponding via email with the fighters I support. So you could keep telling me what I know, and how informed I am (thanks, wasn't sure about that, thought I knew that you were aware that blogs are opinion pieces, but you aptly pointed out that I don;t know that.), or you can start saying something more than: "I will continue to post the polar opposite opinion in the name of balance." why not state something you know, or found out, or what your belief is on why these posts are ignorant. Enlighten us, don't just say these guys are wrong. They're much better informed than you or I.

Re: DREAM 2 Press Conference Photos
The majority of the opinions you just expressed in regard to DREAM are ones that you have developed from reading blogs that may not be as accurate as you think.

In regard to Sakuraba you are taking second hand translations from people who are less than experts at it. Suki is good, and I appreciate her effort and love for MMA, but she often mistranslates pieces. You are forgetting that Sakuraba won the UFC Japan tournament, and competed in multiple-grandprixs during his PRIDE tenure.

For your "DREAM calling Trigg a liar" you are taking the translation from a guy who barely understands English.

Once again proving that you are less informed than you think you are, and again solidifying my opinion of MMA blogs being sometimes detrimental when they report rumor or hearsay as fact.

Re: DREAM 2 Press Conference Photos
So where do you form your opinion from, given that you don't trust any translations you get?

Just to note, there are several translations from far more proficient people and English-literate (mdhan and miscmisc at Kakutougi to name a few), that support the others.

Sakuraba was in fact teasing that he wouldn't enter the tournament, citing a 'scab on his shin that wouldn't stop bleeding.'  Given that Sakuraba's an eccentric guy, it was hardly out of the ordinary to hear such a thing from him, but people were still concerned that he might have been serious.

As for the Trigg thing, mdhan looked at it and made a more complete translation.  Sasahara basically said that Trigg wanted a big paycheck to fight Jacare (because he was a former training partner, apparently), and he (Sasahara) agreed to it.  Then, after the fight was announced, Trigg pulled out and wanted more money.  mdhan also mentioned that the article said it was all verbal agreements and no contracts had been signed.

Re: DREAM 2 Press Conference Photos
Ah, so now, because I should be giving DREAM the benefit of the doubt, I should be doubting the translations? I at least know I have no background in the japanese language. Nice name drop by the way, but it more points out that you've got way too high of an opinion of your skepticism.

Oh, and thanks for telling me what i've forgotten. It's not like I know that, but also accept that fact That Saku's getting a little old, and was always injured even in his prime. Perhaps those tournaments contributed to his ill knee-health, and his feelings on the tourney format. Seems his 'mistranslated' comments jive nicely with his history, so maybe take a look at the full picture before making statements about what I know, and how well informed I am. what's your inside source? how did you get to know everything? or are you just a contary dick, who likes to point out that he thinks he's smarter than everyone?

I mean, shit, I take everything I read on the blogosphere with a grain of salt, but I don't see this kind of info many other places, and I take press releases from any company with a full blown salt lick, due to their need to promote their brand, and cover their asses.

But you're telling me I should start to suspect the translations in these blogs, with no original japanese text, and no ability with the language past counting to ten? getting right down to the nitty-gritty, eh? you're starting to sound like a paranoid nut case. Except, you're suspicious of the critics, who have little to gain by putting out unfounded opinions and their credibility to lose. That's opposed to being suspicious of the promotional company, which has everything to gain by bullshitting to gain exposure, a company that negates any losses in credibilty from being sull of it byt blaming the fighter.

"For your "DREAM calling Trigg a liar" you are taking the translation from a guy who barely understands English."

Where does English come into it? Either it was a translation, and the guy's understanding of the language means DFA, or he said it in broken english. If the latter is the case, I don't care what your native language is, or your understanding, calling someone a "coward, chicken and a lier" is pretty simple. Hard to screw up that translation. Those are serious words to call someone, no matter where you're from, or what you speak. So, gimme some reason to believe some vindictive bloggers purposely mistranslated his statement, and another reason to believe that every blogger didn't take the opportunity to call bullshit on that mistranslation.

Maybe there's a reason there's only one individual defending DREAM like this....being publicly contrary, suspicious and a know-it-all is only acceptable when you support your statements with something other than 'don't believe them, cause I say they might be wrong!' Why not prove they're wrong?

I take everything I read with a bit of doubt, but I don't air it unless I have some kind of proof. Something outside of MY opinion to back it up. You should try it sometime. You might not look like such a douche. (which you do)

Re: DREAM 2 Press Conference Photos
Why don't you guys move your spat up to the new Kang/Mousasi thread? Or does no one care about the actual fights?

Re: DREAM 2 Press Conference Photos
Ouch! you moderated us but good, pa!
:P

Oh, I care about the fights.....I was just running with it where I found it. Plus, do you really want the two of us cluttering up that thread with our defamatory, pointless little argument?

Re: DREAM 2 Press Conference Photos
oh, waitaminute....I'm the only one being defamatory, aren't I? So far he's pointless, aside from saying we shouldn't believe everything we read in blogs. Such sage advice, never been heard before, especially in regards to other media sources.

Re: DREAM 2 Press Conference Photos
i'm not really taking a side here but the Dream calling Trigg a liar.... does seem a bit suspect.... that would be a bit out of character for the Japanese head of the promotion to do that.  i guess we are all talking about the gryphon translation which is four lines of text, i interpreted the first three lines to be a paraphrase of what the Dream president thread and the last line to be the blogger's own little spin on how the first three were being received.....  gryphon would be better served to use a quote box like they do here at BE to clearly delineate the new portion from the editorial portion..... just my take  on it.

Re: DREAM 2 Press Conference Photos
The opening round will set up some very intresting second round match ups. Sakuraba vs. Tamura (which Japanese MMA fans have anticipated for a long time), or Kang vs. Galesic, even Minowa vs. Dong Sik Yoon...

Also, if the rumored inclusion of Melvin Manhoef comes to fruition the second round could be even more intresting.

Re: DREAM 2 Press Conference Photos
If there is so little chance of upsets in the first round, what is the point of having a tournament?

by Kid Nate on Apr 28, 2008 2:43 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Re: DREAM 2 Press Conference Photos
Guess that's why they have the fights. HERO's Korea had what looked like a million mismatches at the time, and underdog after underdog won in decisive fashion...

Guess we'll find out tomorrow how the second round will shape up.

Anyone know how tall Magomed is?  He looks really small next to Zelg, who is listed as 6"2.

Anyone else find it funny that the most argumentative commenter on this blog is also the one who chooses to post as "Anonymous"?
