Dean Lister vs. Jeremy Horn Added to TUF 7 Finale

Jeremy Horn 88-17-5 vs. Dean Lister 10-5-0

This may be the first fight I purchase with UFC On Demand, because I have to see this rematch.

Another solid free card from the UFC.

This card is turning out to be surprisingly good. It'll be a shame if we don't get the Horn - Lister fight.

I'm glad they're giving Horn another fight. He got screwed taking on Marquardt on short notice. I'm still holding out hope that Horn/Tanner will happen in the UFC.

This is a very appealing match to me. Here's to hoping the winner of this match faces Demian Maia.

TANNER! TANNER! Maia needs to be facing Kampmann, Franklin or Bisping -- get that kid on the fast track to contending.

Re: Dean Lister vs. Jeremy Horn Added to TUF 7 Fin
Maia has two be two wins away from a title shot at the bare minimum, while I think three wins is more realistic.

For the sake of argument, let's say Lister beats Horn, then faces Maia. Then let's continue and say Maia beats Lister. Maia then has wins over Jensen, Herman, and Lister. Then he could face the Quarrys/Lebens/Bispings of the world.

After that, you figure either two out of the following four (Leites, Marquardt, Cote, Almeida) will be trying to get back into contention, or, per your suggestion, Kampmann will be in contention as well. Thus, Maiva v. Kampmann/Any of the four with the winner getting a title shot.

As long as I'm dreaming, I'd like a hornless unicorn.

Re: Dean Lister vs. Jeremy Horn Added to TUF 7 Fin
I think it's WAY too early in Maia's career to  consider him close to a title shot.  While Maia is one of my favorite fighters, he still has very little MMA experience and his game is seriously lacking if the fight is anywhere but the ground.  He's fought a total of 7 MMA fights (only 2 of those actually going out of the first round).  Up against a fighter like Kampmann this early, who has a total of 17 MMA fights and is a very likely opponent, could present some problems.  In a perfect world (i.e., one with hornless unicorns), Demian would get someone that can keep the fight on the feet but does not have knockout power.  The first fight he has against an opponent that can stop a takedown attempt and has some power - lights out.

Hopefully the UFC takes their time with him because he has a lot of potential.  His bjj game is beautiful and could actually threaten Anderson Silva in the future (hopefully not near future).

Re: Dean Lister vs. Jeremy Horn Added to TUF 7 Fin
I think I agree with you, but I don't think you are disagreeing with Brett.  My only question is, why so much doubt for Maia's stand up.  He could have great stand up that we haven't seen or needed to see.  He could have major holes too, but my point is he is totally untested in that realm.  Depending on how the divition shakes out over the next year (if key guys lose) Maia could be on the fast track to a title shot. When I say fast track I mean three fights.  He would have to have a few big wins over the guys Brett mentioned.  At that point if the contender shelf was bare then he could get a shot in mid 1009.  He is undefeated after all and we are not talking about a top heavy divition.

Also, if you get the hornless unicorns refrence then Brett will love you forever.

P.S. - I think out of the 4 you listed, Cote is definitely going to be the one trying to get back into contention.  He is slated to take on Ricardo Almeida at UFC 86 and my prediction would be that his 4-fight winning streak is going to be broken via submission.
