Bloody Elbow Meta-Rankings: March

Sorry for the delay in posting these. I had a bit of a busy month.

So I'm posting all of the March rankings in one post without commentary. We also planned to add several sites to our rankings calculations but didn't get time. We'll do that next month and I wanted to thank BE reader Dennis Nolasco for the helpful suggestions.

Rankings are based on an average of Media Rankings (MMA Weekly, Sherdog, World Fight, Cage Potato, Inside MMA, MMAFighting.com and 5 oz of Pain), Fan Rankings (represented by MMA HQ and MMA Playground) and Computer Rankings (represented by Fight Matrix). If we missed a good ranking someone is doing let us know, we'll add them to the mix. Particularly other computerized or fan vote rankings. A #1 vote is worth 10 points, #2 is 9 points and so on. Media rankings are totaled and divided by 7 to represent the average media ranking, this is then added to the computer and fan ranking points to create the total (perfect score is 30 points). Thanks to Brent Brookhouse for doing all the math work on this.

Re: Bloody Elbow Meta-Rankings: March
Always interesting.  And, Vitor Ribeiro should be 11th, not 14th.

Re: Bloody Elbow Meta-Rankings: March
I know it's a math calculation of other rankings but how is Werdum ranked above Arlovski when he lost to him and how is Tyson ranked over Edgar when he just lost to him? If the fights were way back then I would understand but both fights were recent. I don't get it.

Re: Bloody Elbow Meta-Rankings: March
We're just reporting an average of the rankings. If anything we're over-weighting fan ranks and computer rankings so that might explain some of it. But the thing that got me about this one was all the movement in rankings of fighters who are inactive. Chuck Liddell moving up? Why? Denis Kang?? Akiyama dropping despite his loss being ruled a NC and yet Gomi never drops, despite a loss (I mean a NC) and a year off. We're just reporting, the oddities are the responsibility of the rankers.

Re: Bloody Elbow Meta-Rankings: March
Forrest moving up was another weird one to me.  He passed up Machida based on what?  Just buzz over him being on TUF?  Machida hasn't done anything to drop and Forrest hasn't done anything to move up...but because of the show he is on people's minds and that results in him moving up.

Re: Bloody Elbow Meta-Rankings: March
Definitely. Despite the odd changes I think the Meta-ranking system is real interesting to see where the majority of the hardcore fans are putting guys. With that said I think it would also be interesting to see Bloody Elbow's own rankings to coincide with the meta-rankings. Too much? I don't think so.
