Trigg, Aoki Both Call Shenanigans on DREAM

Quick on the heels of DREAM's announcement of their DREAM 2 card two fighters have come out and denied that they will be involved. Well in Shinya Aoki's case he agrees that he'll be fighting JZ Calvancanti on the April 29 card but denies that, if he wins, that he'll go on to fight in round 2 of their lightweight tourny on May 11.

I win on Apr 29, but not fight on May 11. That's their business and not me. I'm not well-considered person to agree with fighting on May 11. I'm not thinking about a fight after Apr 29. I may fight if I had an easy fight on Apr 29.

And now Frank Trigg, who had been announced on the official DREAM site to be fighting Jacare Souza says "no way."

"I haven't heard anything from [DREAM] in about a week and a half. We started talking about a month ago, but lately, there's been no communication. I really haven't even thought about it lately."

If Trigg were to fight in the tournament, he'd have to leave in just four days. And he doesn't even have a visa to travel to Japan.

"We have no contract, and we have no numbers we're even close to agreeing on," he said.

Trigg also said he was unlikely to fight for DREAM unless the event were to air on HDNet. Without an American audience, "it does no good for the my brand as a fighter, broadcaster, writer or for my company Triggonomics," he said. "No one would see me."

This is typical of Japanese promotions -- putting cards together at the last minute with little or no concern for the fighters. PRIDE was notorious for putting together cards at the last possible minute and that bad habit has carried over to the DREAM promotion. Just one more reason the land of the rising sun is no longer the world capitol of MMA.

Real MMA is back!

BTW, Fedor Emelianenko is rematching Mirko CroCop next week in a show that I'm hosting in my driveway.  No contracts have been signed or anything, but I feel comfortable announcing that information right now anyways.

People gotta stop reposting Suki's translation as fact.

When that story first hit a week or so ago someone in a FightLinker post debunked it as a poor translation, with Aoki more or less saying he wasn't thinking about the next fight, fousing on J.Z., not that he would not fight in the next round.
