Strikeforce on NBC

This diary entry was promoted to the front page by Luke Thomas.

I like the commentating team of Lon McEachern and Ken Shamrock...Lon is always smooth on the mic while Ken does a good job with the technical aspects of the game.  If EliteXC were to use one or both for the CBS show, either would do a more than serviceable job.  I know Frank Shamrock has been mentioned as a possibility for May 31st, but I have always thought Ken was much better on color.

The production of the show seemed solid, intro was slick.  This was a good foot in the door for Strikeforce with NBC. Who knows, maybe in the future they can work a deal to fill in for Saturday Night Live when the show is off for a week or possibly in that slot during the summer months. Watching the shows, they are branded specifically for NBC, which is kinda of a questionable decision. If they are paying for the time to put this show on, Strikeforce should be looking for ways to re-brand and re-purpose the show to recoup some costs. IF the IFL is able to syndicate their show internationally, then this could also be an avenue for Strikeforce. Slapping the NBC logo on everything on the show kinda makes it difficult to re-edit or re-package.

Re: Strikeforce on NBC
I'm pretty sure I remember Lon McEachern doing commentary for the short-lived BodogFight tv show.

Re: Strikeforce on NBC
He also did the commentary for PRIDE 33.

Re: Strikeforce on NBC
I remember hearing him do some K-1 stuff that was shown on ESPN as well.

Re: Strikeforce on NBC
Everything is digital now, so it probably wouldn't be very difficult to remove the Peacock logo and add in something else if need be.

Both Shamrocks do a good commentary job, but I agree, Ken is a little better, and frankly one of the best color guys in MMA when he gets the opportunity. Same with Jens Pulver.

Hopefully CBS is going to use Lon, for someone who hasn't been around the sport very long, he did a great job on PRIDE 33. Pair either him or Gus Johnson with Ken and you have a superior commentary crew.

Re: Strikeforce on NBC
did anyone get a chance to watch this live?  I'm curious as to if Strikeforce took up the whole 28 to 30 minutes of air time or if they are looking to sell commercial time within the show to MMA friendly companies like....say.... Affliction, Tapout, Bodog etc....  The airtime is costing them between 35 and 40k a show, don't know if they are just eating that or are trying to break even by bringing in sponsors?

Re: Strikeforce on NBC
I DVR'd it.  It was just like any other network show.  A few commercial breaks with commercials for a bunch of stuff.  Also was very surprised how good Ken was.  I was very familar with Lon from WSOP and Bodog.  He is certainly capable.  Overall, I was impressed with the entire package.
