YAMMA: Rodriguez, Kerr Added and YPF Surface Details

According to yammapitfighting.com:

Ricco Rodriguez (27-8) will be in the 8 man HW tournament and should take this easliy. He may have some trouble against Travis Wiuff (49-11), but this will be a good way for Ricco to build himself back up.

Mark Kerr (15-6) will be fighting Oleg Taktarov (15-5-2).

With these additions, the card is actually looking half decent. You will be able to catch it on PPV for $39.99 on April 11th.

Re: YPF Surface Details
Too bad about it being bowl shaped.  I was hoping for Fightlinker's explanation that the surface was made from the bones and soil of Indian burial grounds...

I like the Yamma bowl -- this is exactly how I used to visualize having MMA events back in the 1990s when it was all up in the air.
I think Frank Shamrock built something similar a few years back as well.

Re: YPF Surface Details
I think the heightened lip will actually give an advantage to the inside fighter, not the fighter against the cage as suggested...

Only if there was space between the fighters should the height be a significant "gravity/leverage" factor.  However, most often, fighters end up with their back to the cage in the clinch and/or defending a take down.  The defender will actually have a harder time defending the take down in this cage, because the aggressor will have an easier time getting underneath of his opponenet for a take down.

Not to mention guys will be backing up into an incline, and will probably just trip and fall half the time.

So, my hunch is that you'll see more of the action going to the ground when it gets against the cage.

Could be interesting. Are these fights gonna count as professional fights or exhibitions. I mean if two boxers fought in a cage then they wouldn't count it as a pro fight.

Re: YAMMA: Rodriguez, Kerr Added and YPF Surface D
I'm pretty sure they'll be counted as pro fights.  Seeing as how rings, octogons, hexagons...pretty much anything else counts.  I think it's more about the rules than the structure.  Although the lack of a flat bottom on the fighting surface may change that.
