Quote of the Day: Dana White

"All I have to say about that is don't ever (expletive) doubt us. All these (expletive) idiots out there that like to talk (expletive) and (expletive) don't ever doubt us, man. Don't ever, ever doubt us.

"The other thing is that goes with Fedor thing is all these people get out there and start talking. It's like every (expletive) five minutes I'm answering questions about the new guy that's going to take the UFC down. A year and a half ago it was the IFL. The IFL has a better model. They are going to take care of these fighters. They're really going to take care of them. They are going to give them stock options. They are going to get medical benefits. They are going to give them a retirement plan. Here we are, the stock is at 8 cents now and they are going out of business. OK.

"The next guy was (Calvin Ayre and) Bodog. This guy is a billionaire and he's doing this and that. Oh my God, look at the contract he gave Matt Lindland. Matt Lindland never got paid  his (expletive) money. The money Matt Lindland was supposed to get paid from Bodog, he never (expletive) paid him. He's like, `(Expletive) you. I live in Costa Rica. What are you going to do about it? The government can't even touch me.' OK.

"The next guy is (HDNet Fights') Mark Cuban. He's a billionaire, this, that and everything else. Then the CBS deal pops up and Mark Cuban isn't as scary anymore. Look at CBS now. Every (expletive) day it's somebody new.

"Let me tell you what, whether it's the fans, the fighters or whoever, the fighters get taken care of in the UFC. I've made more (expletive) millionaires in mixed martial arts than anybody. Even that moron, Tito Ortiz. He's an (expletive) liar. He was on Howard Stern and blatantly flat out lied about what he made. The guy has made millions. Remember the interview with him, `Booh hooh, I crashed my car into a tree. My life is over.' I brought him back and made him a coach on Season 3 of The Ultimate Fighter. The guy has made millions of dollars, millions, OK. This is where it's at. This is where the fighters are going to make the money.

"You got all these guys trying to put together companies. M-1 and this and that and all these different (expletive) things. They've never even put on a fight, yet. They've never even put on a fight and they are going to be the company to beat the UFC.

"You think of this. You come over to my house this weekend and we kick back and watch TV. We put on (expletive) NASCAR. We're like, `Holy (expletive). Look at all the (expletive) people at this race. All those fans and this and that. These guys got television deals and merchandise deals and all this crazy (expletive). You know what? Let's steal two of their drivers, and let's start our own (expletive) company. We'll call it (expletive), you know, GASCAR instead of (expletive) NASCAR.' That's how (expletive) stupid it is. It's the exact same thing, you know. NASCAR is huge. Nobody is going to jump out and start competing with NASCAR. But small races go on every weekend all over the country. All these guys eventually want to make it to NASCAR and become professional drivers.

"It's the same (expletive) thing with the mixed martial arts market. The UFC is here. We're pulling all the numbers. We're doing all this (expletive). We're the real deal. But every weekend, all over the country, all over the world, fights happen. That's the way the business works. We need those smaller shows as a feeder system to get to the UFC. The whole (expletive) psycho internet thing where everybody wants to jump on and everybody is going to kick our (expletive), it's all insane."

-- Dana White, UFC President, making the case for why the UFC is already too far ahead of it's North American competition for their competitors' business tactics and strategies to matter over the long run.

On a personal note, I'm very tired of his anti-Internet tirades. Dana, you want to talk about free entertainment, let's talk about things that are "free": you shit on us in the blogosphere and Internet space at every opportunity and all we do is provide you, your organization and your fighters publicity...for free. A "thank you" instead of the "fuck you" we get ad nauseum might be in (expletive) order, don't you (expletive) think, mother (expletive)?

Re: Quote of the Day: Dana White
Further down in the interview he starts talking about the upcoming season and that Forrest & Rampage get into. Dana is making it sound like its something big

Re: Quote of the Day: Dana White
As much as everyone hates Dana...he is correct on all accounts...however, he should show more respect to the sites that are legit in covering MMA.

Re: Quote of the Day: Dana White
I certainly don't hate Dana at all. I like him a lot and hope that this site and others could have a better relationship with the UFC. But he wonders why he takes an unfair beating on some Internet sites, yet can't stop himself from being so adversarial.

And the victimhood angle is just tired at this point.

Re: Quote of the Day: Dana White
I really think when he says "internet" he means "Sherdog."

Re: Quote of the Day: Dana White
Nicely (expletive) put, Luke.

As a fan, I get 95 percent of my info from the MMA blogs.  I can't remember the last time UFC.com, Sherdog or MMAWeekly have broken any kind if big news.

Re: Quote of the Day: Dana White
What I find annoying is the way he clumps the entire internet together.  Sherdog basically deserves everything he says about them, they have positioned themselves as the anti-Dana White, but it's not like all MMA blogs and websites are the same.

Re: Quote of the Day: Dana White
I noticed in the interview that he completely avoids commenting on Fedor and Couture.  The interviewer asks him about four point-blank questions about the two fighters.  Eventually, his only relevant response is "I don't even know about Randy. I haven't even thought about Randy. We're in court with him. As far as I'm concerned he's the heavyweight champion of the UFC. He took his signing bonus and signed his deal. He's got two fights left and he's the champ."

Re: Quote of the Day: Dana White
Ain't it obvious Dana's a total control freak? He doesn't like (expletive) publicity he can't (expletive) control.

Re: Quote of the Day: Dana White
This is a tantrum. Sorry, but that's exactly what it is, whether some (or even all) of his points have merit or not.

He really is the new Vince McMahon -- a damn good businessman who can't help but make himself hard to like, because he's, you know, a (expletive) (expletive), and also acts like a child when it suits him.

At least he's pretty funny.  I was just thinking of opening up GASCAR...

Re: Quote of the Day: Dana White
Yeah, I'm not totally dissing Dana. For one thing, as I said before (and is pretty obvious), the guy is a good businessman. And secondly, Dana's assholeishness doesn't come off as cartoony and often vile as McMahon's, or someone similar if people are uncomfortable with the pro wrestling promoter being the comparison. Dana's comes off like any number of egotistical, obnoxious people you've ever met in your life. He's very human and the real issue is he too often lets his emotions get the better of him. It doesn't make him a bad person.

In some ways, you can say it's refreshing that a guy in his position doesn't bullshit the sport's fans (even though he frequently does -- all fight promoters are carnies at heart, and this extends to everyone in boxing, too) and doesn't just give PR answers. But it'd probably be more effective if he ever stopped with his whole schtick. UFC is not in any way in danger of being overtaken as the world's No. 1 fight promotion by anyone, because even if they have all the money in the world, they don't have the close connection to the game that Dana does, which really drives him, I'm sure.

I don't expect anyone to be flawless, but in terms of professional behavior, Dana is exceptionally flawed. But I'm not trying to bash him, really, at least that's not my point. I find him to be very interesting.

Re: Quote of the Day: Dana White
White really doesn't bother me, but I think a lot of it has to do with a large percentage of my friends being business owners who talk roughly the same way.

Re: Quote of the Day: Dana White
Fuck Dana and Fuck the UFC.

The more fighters defect to other US-based shows with deep pockets, the less the UFC is relevant.

What Dana misses is that it's about the fighters.

Watch as many important names leave the heavyweight division of the UFC.

Sure fighters come and go, but when many are leaving that's a sign.

He sounds like a kid ranting.

Re: Quote of the Day: Dana White
Who is leaving?  Tito Ortiz?  Randy Couture?  That's hardly a trend.

Re: Quote of the Day: Dana White
Dohfil...Couture(who's got like one fight left in his career) and Ortiz(who's career is basically done) leaving isn't a sign of anything.  Dana knows it's about the fighters...hence why if you read...you'll see that AA and Koscheck BOTH want to and will re-sign with the UFC.
