The Kimbo Reality Check

The only disappointing moment on a fantastic show for Elite XC was the lukewarm reaction to Kimbo Slice.  After the insane reaction to him in Miami, I'm sure Pro Elite was hoping for the same kind of thing in San Jose.  This was a big wake up call in terms of Kimbo's star power.  It is still fairly limited to internet hype and local legend.  The chummy conversation with Goldberg was a downer as well.

This isn't to say he won't become a mega star.  There's a big chance that will indeed happen.  It's just a reminder that Kimbo alone cannot carry the first Elite show on CBS.

Yeah...I remember watching it and thought "Damn...Kimbo said about 10 words. That's it?"

It seemed really pointless.

Re: The Kimbo Reality Check
Considering that it was expected that Kimbo's opponent for MMA's network debut was to be named during the event, it certainly was an anticlimactic moment.

Without any significant news, Kimbo (and his lackluster mic-skills) was clearly upstaged by his ridiculously loud shirt.

The arena and I booed the hell out of him, but there was still a pop when Jimmy announced he was coming out.

Because I don't like him, what the hell kind of answer do you expect.

Re: The Kimbo Reality Check
I was in the arena too and the section I was in was cheering for him pretty heavily. Saying "the arena booed the hell out of him" is quite an exaggeration. From where I sat it Kimbo's interview got a great pop from the crowd even though there wasn't much substance or big news announced. He's really winning me over, especially with how he rebutted Goldberg's attempt to label him as a superstar by staying humble.

Re: The Kimbo Reality Check
The reception would have been a lot more warm if they would have brought out his opponent for the CBS show IMO.
From watching on TV it was more gladstanding by EliteXC that came off pretty cheap and lame..I mean, Kimbo is relatively interesting to watch but he's not a superstar yet

Re: The Kimbo Reality Check
Being on the main event doesn't make you a superstar if your opponents are cans.
