Cro Cop's Opponent for March 15 Revealed

And the winner is...

Tatsuya Mizuno:

Mizuno carries a 4-2 professional record contested entirely in Pancrase. His two most noteworthy opponents, Thiago Silva (Pictures) and Assuerio Silva (Pictures), dominated him in brutal fashion. However, the Japanese fighter has since picked up two wins, stopping Masayuki Kono (Pictures) in the first round in November and submitting Dave Frendin last month in Australia.

So all the speculation leads to nothing more than a sacrificial lamb.  I don't know what I was expecting but at least "Mighty Mo" and Yoshihiro Nakao were somewhat interesting.  At least we'll be getting a highlight reel KO to put after the Dos Caras Jr. kick.

Update [2008-3-11 11:47:55 by Kid Nate]:

More intriguing to me are the rumors coming out of Japan that the Yakuza frowned on Nakao fighting Cro Cop for some reason. From the ever cryptic Gryphon:

YANO has a blog, and He said there

"YAKUZA (japanese maffia)is terrible!!

I hear tha If NAKAO fight Mirko,YAKUZA will kidnap nakao and abandon him in Tokyo Sea....."

gentlemen,I know YANO like a black joke and sinical humor,

And If YAKUZA theat is real, it is difficult to say apparently.........

So I do not know, what it is true.....IMO

His follow up post is even more cryptic, looks like the Japanese fans rely on Zack Arnold to decode their Byzantine fight scene as much as we do.

Re: Cro Cop's Opponent for
If the clothes do make the man, then you would know exactly who Fujita and Nakao are.  In Japan, clothing says a lot about where the person stands in society, or in the yakuza.

It doesn't bother me that Crocop isn't fighting an upper/mid-tier fighter right away.

At Dream.3 or Dream.4 I would expect to see him fighting a K-1 stand out, like Mighty Mo or Semmy Schilt. And then somewhere down the line possibly Fedor for his final fight with the organization.

I don't mind.  I think he needs the win and I'm all for him getting it.  I just would have rather seen Nakao get the fight.  He's a bit more dangerous but should be "beatable"

Every indication is that the Nakao blog post thing was a joke. Though I'm sure Zach Arnold disagrees with that assessment
