How Wrestlers Lose in MMA: Knees to the Face

So for this installment of "How Wrestlers Lose in MMA" I'm going to talk about knees to the face. Well there's not much to say really, other than it's really easy to get KTFO'd when you dive for a double leg take down and your opponent knees you in the face.

Here's some famous MMA fights that ended badly for the wrestler. First up, Nick Nutter from Mark Coleman's Hammer House up against the Ukrainian Terror Igor Vovchanchyn in 1998. This was actually Nutter's 2nd loss to Igor (the first one is in the extended entry, it's a classic too but much longer, Igor won by headbuts FROM THE BOTTOM). Nutter was a bad dude who was undefeated in MMA other than his 2 fights with Igor. Coleman's win over Igor in the 2000 Pride Grand Prix was sweet revenge for team Hammer House.

Here's another legendary match, Matt Hughes vs Jose "Pele" Landi-Jons, at the oddly named Shidokan Jitsu - Warriors War 1 on February 8, 2001. Hughes would rebound to go on a streak of dominance unmatched in MMA but Pele hasn't been so fortunate, going on to lose his next 5 fights and 9 of his next 13. A sad fall for the man who had a strong claim to be the #1 welterweight in the world from 1998 to 2001

I'll be flabbergasted if Mir beats Lesnar with a knee, but if say Fabricio Werdum did I wouldn't be surprised at all.

Star-divide

The crazy end of the first Nutter vs Vovchanchyn fight. (The other parts are on YouTube as well, here's the links: Part 1, Part 2)

You could also argue that knees to the face would help wrestlers finish more opponents from side control.
