Imanari's leg lock is a variation on the heel hook. You use it when the opportunity to crank normally with the wrist or elbow isn't available.

I remember my jaw hitting the floor when Chonan ended his fight with Silva with that submission. It was nuts.

What isn't apparent from the short clip is that it was nearly the end of the fight and Silva had been dominated by Chonan's striking. Chonan was going to win by decision anyway.
