Just got home from my 5th class, the start of my third week of training. Had a long talk with one of my buddies I'm training with tonight and I thought I'd write a bit about our thought processes regarding why we decided to train, and some disagreements we had about our perspectives.

Quote of the Day: Wanderlei Silva
By Nick Thomas
Posted on Tue May 13, 2008 at 10:17:42 AM EDT

Everybody likes my fight style but now I need to win... I'm working 24 hours a day for this fight.

Keith Jardine has a good style. He likes to fight standup and it's good for fans. It's more emotional. I love this. I think this is a good opponent for me. He has beaten many, he beat Forrest, he beat Chuck and he is a good name for me, a good match.

I’m going to prepare for his technique. I’m training a lot of Muay Thai. I'm training a lot of wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu. I'm prepared for every situation for this fight.

-- 'The Axe Murderer' breaks down his fight for UFC 84.

The odds:

  • B.J. Penn -265
  • Lyoto Machida -220
  • Wanderlei Silva -170
  • Sean Sherk +215
  • Tito Ortiz +180
  • Keith Jardine +140

Dream 3 Press Conference Highlights
By robnashville
Posted on Tue May 13, 2008 at 09:23:05 AM EDT

SportsNavi had coverage of the Dream day-after Press conference:

Dream Event Producer Sasahara was asked about the possibility of Kimbo Slice possibly fighting on a dream card, despite him being unknown in Japan. He was also asked if EliteXC's female superstar Gina Carano might be a possibility.

Dream Event Producer Sasahara: " Certainly, now Kimbo Slice is perhaps namelessness. But, like Mayhem Miller yesterday, there is a possibility where it can grasp the heart of the fan with 1 appearance'

In regards to the woman fighter, at present time, no. Now ' DREAM ' is in the process of growing. When ' DREAM ' has reached maturity, we would think of adding women fighters at that time."

Evan Tanner is Shutting Down His Journal
By Nick Thomas
Posted on Tue May 13, 2008 at 09:04:01 AM EDT

NoooOOoooo:

Something unexpected has come up. I'm not going to be able to keep this journal here anymore. I'll be shutting it down for good later this week, but before I do, I'm going to try to get everyone caught up on what has led to this. I have some stories to tell, and some pictures to post up.

Brent and I are going to try to drive the Land Cruiser over the mountain range tomorrow, from Vegas to Pahrump.... We're going to load up our warm clothes, some food, a camera, and a spare gas can, and just go for it. I'm hoping we can get it done in one day, and I hope we make it back in one piece.

I'll start catching the journal up when I get back from the mountains.

Rothwell vs Arlovski Confirmed?
By robnashville
Posted on Mon May 12, 2008 at 09:07:03 PM EDT

Dr J over at MMAHQ is reporting and Ben Rothwell is confirming the addition of Arlovski vs Rothwell to the Affliction card. This bout is scheduled for July 19th on the undercard of Fedor Vs Tim Sylvia.

Ben Rothwell: just remember back at the post "lets get the rumor right its not about who"

ya well i was trying to clear up that i was not fighting AA in Sept on another org. as the original rumor stated. I tried to never say if i was/was not fighting AA but most all the forum took it that way, sorry i guess.

anyway I'm excited to fight a top10 HW, so thanks for the support, peace

According to Dr J, Arlovski has signed with AdrenalineMMA and is being loaned out to the Affliction card, though there has been no independent verification of this. The Adrenaline promotion is headed up by Monte Cox and are focusing on being a mid-level regional player in the MMA landscape, much like Strikeforce in Northern Cali and the West Coast. Adrenaline has focused on the Midwest, with their initial cards being in suburban Chicago and the Quad-Cities area. Signing Arlovski to Adrenaline makes sense since he is headquartered out of Chicago and could be a significant draw for them.

Arlovski is a former UFC heavyweight champion who recently became a free agent after his Victory over Jake O'Brien at UFC 82. Rothwell became a free agent January 1st of this year, after an undefeated run in the IFL for the Pat Miletich coached Silverbacks. Rothwell recently signed to AdrenalineMMA, which is headed up by his manager Monte Cox.

Developing.....

Update [2008-5-13 9:50:36 by Luke Thomas]:: Just so everything is clear, this story is NOT - I repeat: NOT - confirmed. This is, at best, interesting speculation and should be viewed as such. Apologies for any misconception.

UFC 84 Preview: BJ Penn
By Nick Thomas
Posted on Mon May 12, 2008 at 09:52:41 AM EDT

BJ is looking great in his latest training video on mount drills.

Update [2008-5-12 15:51:17 by Nick Thomas]: Jens “Little Evil” Pulver talks B.J Penn vs. Sean Sherk.:

I love B.J in the early rounds. He doesn’t lose the first round ever! Anybody that tries to shoot on B.J they are going to find out real quick that B.J likes that. When B.J shoots it’s a different story. So is Sherk going to go out there, and stand with him and try to make B.J take that shot? That might not be a good idea either I mean B.J wrecked GSP in the first round…The one thing I do give Sherk is the guy can do that speed all day long…If it gets to that 4th or 5th round you got to give it to Sherk grinding it out. Is it going to be flashy? Probably not…He will be ground and pounding, and just grinding away scoring points.
