Nick Diaz Off Strikeforce/EXC Show
It looks like Drew Fickett has found a new opponent for Saturday's Strikeforce/EliteXC show. Unfortunately he is facing Jae Suk Lim as a replacement for Nick Diaz.
Drew Fickett will now step in and face Kim instead, as he was currently without a bout after Jake Shields dropped out of their planned title bout due to injury.
The exit of Diaz came suddenly after EliteXC had just released what was believed to be the final change to its upcoming Showtime card.
Jae Suk Kim will now face Drew Fickett in a fight that will take place at 170 pounds and will be a part of the televised portion of the show.
MMAWeekly.com was unable to secure any further details as to why Diaz had to drop out of his bout, but will follow up as more information becomes available.
Luke wasn't kidding earlier today when he said that this show is slowly turning into an absolute disaster. All we can hope for is Cung Le and Frank Shamrock staying healthy so we have a real title fight at the top of the show. The show has actually dropped to being my third most anticipated show of the next week and a half behind the stacked Ultimate Fight Night and IFL cards.
That being said, Fickett/Lim is a pretty interesting fight as you're taking two big underdogs in the originally scheduled fight and letting them go at each other. I'll take Fickett by TKO late in the fight though.
Update [2008-3-27 10:3:0 by Nick Thomas]: The undisclosed reason is waiting 3 days before the fight to say Diaz has a prescription for medical marijuana because of his ADD.

Re: Nick Diaz Off Strikeforce/EXC Show
I have a hard time trusting that Diaz and Gary Shaw are the ones who are "right" in this case. Obviously I don't , nor does anyone else likely to comment on the site, have all the details on exactly what is going on.
But I do know that generally you would need to turn in your prescription drug situation prior to three days out from the fight. So it seems odd that they wouldn't have turned it in earlier.
The one argument I'm already seeing pop up is that the athletic commissions are "crooked" and trying to screw over the show. Which is about the dumbest thing possible. There is no reason that the state commission would be trying to anger promotions or give other promotions reasons to not hold shows there. Money is made by the state off of these events.
I will say that these AC's can be a bit on the dickheaded side when it comes to feeling like people are playing games with them. And Shaw can certainly come across like a guy who is trying to "slip something by" or something along those lines. So if they felt something shady was going on they probably didn't hesitate to pull the plug on Diaz competing.

Her answer "no way would pot help out with ADD. The calming effects it has in recreational use aren't anything that would help ADD, in actuality it could easily make it worse."
