Today I'd like to start the morning by sharing this very impressive highlight video from this year's USA Freestyle Wrestling World Team Trials.
I can't spend the time identifying all the men and women in the footage, but I hope even those unfamiliar with the sport are drawn to the enthralling spectacle that is high-level freestyle wrestling under the new rules.
The production value for the video is pretty impressive, and represents a good indicator of just how far various forms of Olympic-style wrestling coverage have come in the last few years.
The video closes with an embrace between 74 kg finalist Jordan Burroughs and David Taylor. Burroughs, winner of the 2012 Olympics and the last two World Championships, beat the ultra-talented Taylor in two hotly contested matches in the final wrestle off for the 2014 World Team slot. This gesture between the two indicates a huge amount of respect in a sport where the losers of matches usually require a good bit of cooling time after having their hearts broken.
And to answer the obvious question, no, I have no clue if any of the wrestlers depicted will ever pursue a career in MMA.
The finals air tonight on NBS Sports Network at 9 eastern.
