Chael Sonnen offers official response to NSAC’s amended complaint

Retired UFC competitor Chael Sonnen released a short statement though his lawyer addressing the amended complaint.

Chael Sonnen officially responded to the Nevada State Athletic Commission's amended complaint against him.

The response, provided by Sonnen's lawyer Jeff Meyer,  explained to the commission that Sonnen was looking to comply with the NSAC and assume responsibility for his actions.

"Mr. Sonnen does not dispute any of the factual allegations contained in the First Amended Complaint. Mr. Sonnen accepts responsibility for his actions and will comply with the Commission in the prompt resolution of this matter."

Sonnen failed the first of two random drug tests in February for the Clomiphene and Anastrozole, but proclaimed that he required the banned substances as fertility medication and to help kick start his natural testosterone production after going off Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT).

A few months later, Sonnen tested positive for Human Growth Hormone (HGH) and recombinant human erythropoietin (EPO). Both the drugs clearly fall under performance enhancing drugs and could not be masqueraded for fertility medication.

Sonnen retired shortly after the initial drug test, as he doubted his ability to legally partake in combat sports without TRT, but it was the second failed test that could potentially cost him severely. Shortly thereafter, the UFC and FOX cut ties with Sonnen, which meant the end of his flourishing broadcasting career with the company. He could also, according to a NSAC revised complaint against him first obtained by MMAJunkie.com, face a fine of up to $250,000.

Sonnen's case will heard at the commission's July 23 hearing.
