Twitter round-up: MMA community chronicles Germany's annihilation of Brazil in FIFA World Cup semifinals

Jamie McDonald

It's only halftime, and it looks like host nation Brazil are going out of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The UFC's Brazilian contingent are not pleased.

As of this publish, it's halftime in the 2014 FIFA World Cup semifinal meeting between the hosts Brazil and Germany. The game is effectively over. Without superstar Neymar (injury) and team captain and central defender Thiago Silva (yellow card suspension), Brazil look absolutely hopeless and lifeless in front of their legion of loyal fans. Germany are 5-0 up after 45 minutes, having scored all of their goals before the 30th minute, with 4 of them coming in a 6 minute span. It is the first time in World Cup history that a team has put in 5 before the half-hour mark, and it's the first time Brazil have not conceded 5 goals in a single World Cup match since 1938 (a game they won 6-5 over Poland).

Miroslav Klose's goal to put the Germans ahead 2-0 put Klose at 16 career World Cup goals, making him the all-time greatest ever World Cup scorer, surpassing Brazil's Ronaldo in a moment of adding insult to several other insults.

It's a foregone conclusion that the host nation will be relegated to playing for 3rd place while the Germans play one of Argentina or Netherlands on Sunday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The fans are shocked, they booed resoundingly at halftime, and as you can imagine, many of the MMA world's Brazilian fighters (and MMA Fighting's own Guilherme Cruz) were none too happy over that unprecedented wipeout. Some of the tweets were written in Portuguese, but you don't need a translator to figure out the general tone conveyed. The elation of German UFC fighters Nick Hein and Pascal Krauss is drowned out by the utter despair of his Brazilian MMA counterparts.

Just 45 minutes left of this game to go, and Brazil are being crushed in Belo Horizonte.
