While most MMA fans were obviously tuned into UFC Fight Night: Cerrone vs. Miller, there was the matter of the ESPY awards in Los Angeles. One of the categories for the ESPN-presented ceremony was "Best Female Athlete", with nominees Maya Moore (WNBA), Mikaela Shiffrin (2014 Olympic gold medalist in slalom skiing), Breanna Stewart (UConn college basketball), and UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey.
And the winner is....
Rousey is the first MMA fighter to win an ESPY award. She's coming off a 16 second destruction of Alexis Davis at UFC 175, which followed her 66 second TKO of Sara McMann in February at UFC 170.
Two other UFC champions were nominated for Best Fighter, as Jon Jones and Chris Weidman went up against Andre Ward, Manny Pacquiao, and Floyd Mayweather Jr. To no one's surprise, Mayweather once again took home the award, which has been won solely by him and Pacquiao since the award was introduced in 2007.
