Join us tonight for episode 8 of The Ultimate Fighter: Team Edgar vs. Team Penn. The Ultimate Fighter airs on Fox Sports 1 starting at 10:00 p.m. ET. We'll have TUF discussion, right here at Bloody Elbow.
Last week saw the two teams finally getting into the angry part of the show. Fallout from the controversial Zapata vs. Stephens fights led to significant tensions between each team and a lot of rather ridiculous name-calling. As Team Penn coach Mark Coleman pointed out, this is a good thing, because it means more spirited fights. Then last week's fight kind of stunk, which did not exactly support the Hammer's claim, but you get the idea. Tonight? If the previews are any indication, this will be a different story.
On we go to this week and tonight's fight:
This is the last Middleweight fight of the opening round, and it's being billed as a big grudge match based on some dirty dishes. That seems a little off, but I do think there will be some bad feelings here. Gordon is clearly pretty upset about the Zapata fight and is ready to take out his aggression. This Serra-Longo fighter did a lot of trash talking last week - he needs to prove it tonight. Opponent Mike King has come across as a very level-headed guy all season. Undefeated in his pro career, the big, lanky King had a really solid win to get in to the house, and looks like a fighter with some real potential. This could be a very good fight. Or, as one preview indicated, it could be another controversial one where an (intentional?) eye gouge derails things. We'll find out tonight.
Oh, and the coaches challenge for those of you who enjoy that part.
