Road FC 15 happened in Wonju, South Korea this past weekend, and the country's top promotion brought in some established MMA stars in Joachim Hansen, Ikuhisa Minowa, and UFC vet Issei Tamura. Unfortunately for these staples of Japanese MMA, their Korean opposition won impressively on all three featured bouts.
Hansen took on Seo Doo Won in a rematch of their 2013 bout which saw the former DREAM and Shooto champion win by submission. Things went completely different on their rematch though, as Hansen came out aggressively from the opening bell, only to eat a hard shot which knocked him out in just 15 seconds.
With the win, Doo-Won improves his very misleading record to 10-7. That may not seem impressive at first glance, but since a 2008 loss to Jake Ellenberger, the Korean has now won 7 of his last 8 while also brutally avenging his only loss in the past 6 years.
Former ONE FC champion Soo Chul Kim continued his impressive run as of late, taking down Issei Tamura and quickly transitioning to a rear naked choke midway through the opening round. After stopping yet another UFC veteran, the 22-year-old prodigy made his case for being one of the top bantamweight prospects in the sport.
Since a rough start to his MMA career that saw him fed to the fire early on as a teenager, Kim has now won 5 of his last 6, adding this impressive victory over Tamura to a resume that already includes wins over high caliber opponents such as UFC veterans Motonobu Tezuka and Leandro Issa, along with Filipino star Kevin Belingon. His only loss in that stretch, a back and forth decision loss to Bibiano Fernandes.
Minowaman returned for the 4th time in the Road FC cage on this event. While he didn't exactly get top-level competition in Jung-Gyo Park who came in at 1-5, he still ended up on the losing end of a brutal knockout where the long time JMMA star had to be stretchered out of the cage.
