Tatsuya Kawajiri (33-8-2) was penciled in to make a home coming on the upcoming UFC card in Japan this September, but as MMA Fighting reports, the Japanese legend will be pulling out of the September 20 card after suffering a detached retina. According to Helwani, 'Crusher' will have surgery this coming weekend, but there is still no time table on his return:
Doctors have yet to determine how long Kawajiri will be out for because this marks the third time he has suffered a detached retina in his left eye. The first two times happened when he was competing for PRIDE and Shooto.
Prior to pulling out of this UFC: Japan card, he was supposed to be matched up against Darren Elkins. Now, if they're looking for replacements, I think I have an idea on which featherweight and fellow Japanese legend they can sign as a perfect alternative. Give him a call, Dana. Do it.
