Irish welterweight Cathal Pendred has been signed by the UFC and will compete on home soil in his official debut. The former Cage Warriors champion was a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter 19, but lost a close split decision in the semi-finals. Despite that, he has been welcomed into the organization to fight in Dublin on July 19th according to a tweet he sent out:
I have signed a contract with the UFC & make my debut on July 19th. Dreams do become reality when you work tirelessly towards them & believe— Cathal Pendred (@PendredMMA) June 19, 2014
His opponent on the card will be Mike King (5-0), a fellow TUF 19 contestant. He was eliminated in the quarter-finals.
Pendred (13-2-1) last officially competed in mid-2013 when he upset Che Mills at a Cage Warriors event. The main event of the Dublin show will see another Irish fighter, Conor McGregor, facing off with with TUF winner Diego Brandao.
