UFC president Dana White is looking to make the best fight possible at flyweight even if the champ isn't exactly excited about it. Demetrious Johnson has been clear that he'd be more interested in a new challenge for his title as opposed to a rematch, but John Dodson cemented himself as the number one contender again by stopping John Moraga earlier this month in Albuquerque. The champ successfully defended his title last weekend by defeating Ali Bagautinov, and White was impressed with that. But he made his intentions for the division clear recently on The Download on UFC.com:
"He looked amazing and he looks better every time he fights," White said. "He's a guy that's building a division. He's building that division for us. I love the Johnson-Dodson fight."
"Too bad if Demetrious doesn't like that fight, that's the fight he's probably looking at. No doubt about it, that is (potentially) one of the premier match-ups in the UFC this year," White said.
Dodson (16-6) lost a close decision to the champ in January 2013 at UFC on Fox 8 and recently accused DJ of ducking a rematch with him. Personally, I think it's a great fight and can't wait to see it. Hopefully they can put it together relatively soon.
