Less than a week removed from his Flyweight title fight on PPV against Demetrious Johnson, Ali Bagautinov is optimistic about his chances at getting back to the front of the line for a rematch.
The Dagestan native fought the reigning 125lb. champ to a unanimous decision loss, and while he was disappointed with the outcome, he admitted that it was "hard" to mentally prepare for the fight.
"It was hard to prepare myself mentally just before the fight against Johnson," Bagautinov told MMABoxing.ru. "Because I knew that I had really big responsibility. I had so many thoughts in my head and I did my best."
While Bagautinov does not know who he is going to face in his next octagon outing, he is motivated by the fact that Johnson's camp considered him their toughest test to date.
"I don't know what is next for me yet. Now I just wait the name of my next opponent and I'm going to come back after loss. On the post-fight press conference Johnson and his coaches said that our fight was the toughest title defense he has ever had. So it means something to me."
While he awaits his next opponent, Bagautinov will take some time to rest his body and help his fellow teammates prepare for their respective fights.
"Right now I am going to take some rest and help to my Russian teammates prepare for their fights and competitions."
