Raphael Assuncao dissatisfied with the UFC potentially scheduling a rematch between Dillashaw and Barao

Jason Silva-USA TODAY Sports

UFC bantamweight Rapahel Assuncao is not happy about the UFC potentially scheduling a rematch between the new champion T.J. Dilashaw and former champ Renan Barao.

After UFC President Dana White revealed that a rematch between Renan Barao and T.J. Dillashaw makes the most sense, Rapahel Assuncao revealed his dissatisfaction about being left out of the bantamweight title picture.

The Brazilian already holds a close split decision victory over the newly-crowned champion, and appeared to be the likely contender for the title before White revealed his opinion on the rematch in a media scrum ahead of UFC 174.

"Honestly, I know rematches are always nice, but me beating the champion of my weight class in a competitive fight is nice, too," Assuncao told UFC Tonight's Ariel Helwani. "Dana is my boss whatever he decides respectfully that's what it will be."

Assuncao has won his last six straight octagon outings, including a win over Dillashaw. That win was followed by another one over Pedro Munhoz, which was supposed to slot him against Barao, but a rib injury would force him onto the sidelines and allow Dillashaw an opportunity to capture glory - which he accepted wholeheartedly.

Assuncao also believed his previous win over the champ would have added to the stakes and helped sell the fight on PPV.

"I thought it could have been my fight, my chance at the title," Assuncao said. "I also would have helped selling and promoting the fight as much as I could to make people want to see it."
