Since the UFC has decided to produce 50+ events in 2014, there is a remarkable amount of fighter signings and new match-ups being set up throughout any given week. Many of these new signings are for match-ups that take place on the under card, or on the Fight Pass portion of a PPV, so we are going to continue with a new weekly (or bi-weekly if needed) series of articles where we take a brief look at each and every bout booked by the promotion in one place.
Joe Ellenberger has yet another opponent, as Bryan Barberena steps in to replace the injured Johnny Case in San Antonio. Ellenberger, who has not fought since 2012, was set to make his debut earlier this year but had his fight cancelled in the last minute.
As previously announced, the UFC's highly anticipated return to Ireland will feature another Dublin native, as the undefeated Patrick Holohan has signed with the promotion and will make his debut on the fight card against Josh Sampo. While the whole card is set to stream on UFC Fight Pass, this fight will likely end up on the preliminary portion.
The UFC's next PPV event will feature the bantamweight debut of Marcus Brimage, who will drop from featherweight to face Russell Doane on the preliminary portion of the fight card. The card will also feature veteran George Roop against newcomer Rob Font.
Tulsa's first UFC fight card has a third fight, as featherweights Tom Niinimaki and Chas Skelly get set to cross paths in August. Both fighters are coming off loses in their most recent octagon outings. A flyweight contest between Tim Elliott and Wilson Reis will also be a part of the card.
