UFC 174 results recap: Demetrious Johnson vs Ali Bagautinov

Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

Bloody Elbow recaps the two big fights from UFC 174 last night in Vancouver. Here, we look at Demetrious Johnson vs Ali Bagautinov.

In the UFC 174 main event, flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson and challenger Ali Bagautinov engaged in a somewhat entertaining five-round battle. Both competitors had their moments in the fight, but it was ultimately Johnson who controlled the entirety of the fight en route to a straightforward title defence.

Johnson came into this title fight riding off a fantastic first round knockout of Joseph Benavidez. He added to his title defences with an impressive unanimous decision victory over the Dagestan native on Saturday night. Bagautinov would occasionally attempt to grind the champ against the cage but was unable to match his pace for the majority of the bout.

Official Result: Demetrious Johnson def. Ali Bagautinov via unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-45)

What was the high point of the fight?

The entire fight was a standard "Mighty Mouse" performance, so it is hard to determine an exact high point in the fight, but the earlier rounds were arguably the more competitive ones so the first couple of rounds would be the ones to focus on.

Where do these two go from here?

Demetrious Johnson is quickly solidifying himself as one of the top fighters in the UFC. He has been dominant since winning the Flyweight championship, and has now defended his title on four separate occasions. While title challengers are likely to continue creeping up as time goes on, for the time being, it looks like Johnson will rematch challengers like john Dodson in the foreseeable future.

Watch now, later or never?

Watch later. It was a standard performance from the champion, and while it is always compelling to watch a champion hone his craft, there were very few high points in the fight to make it memorable.
