In the co-main event of the UFC 174 fight card, top welterweights Tyron Woodley and Rory MacDonald engaged in a compelling encounter that eventually lead to a unanimous decision victory for the Kelowna native.
Tyron Woodley was coming into this fight riding a two-fight winning streak when he stepped into the cage against Rory MacDonald. His Canadian opponent was coming off a unanimous decision win against Demian Maia, and both competitors needed a big showing on Saturday night to prove themselves worthy as title contenders.
Sadly, that was not the case on fight night for Woodley, as the two engaged lightly, but did not provide the barnburner that many expected. Woodley looked uncomfortable in the striking department against MacDonald, and was peppered with a variety of strikes in the opening two rounds, but would later be thoroughly dominated on the ground in the third round.
Following his win, MacDonald told UFC commentator Joe Rogan that he is ready for a title shot whenever it comes.
"But they should know that I'm ready, and one day very soon the belt will be mine," MacDonald stated after the fight.
Official Result: Rory MacDonald def. Tyron Woodley via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
