Gegard Mousasi is refused to call out a specific opponent after his main event victory in Berlin, but suggested potential match-ups against either Tim Kennedy or Luke Rockhold would make sense for his next octagon outing.
The Armenian native picked up arguably one of the biggest wins of his professional career on Saturday, when he dispatched longstanding middleweight Mark Munoz in the opening round of their main event contest. It was a dominant performance from Mousasi, who survived an early takedown by quickly reversing position, before sinking in a rear-naked-choke to force the tap in under four minutes of cage time.
During his post-fight interview, the former Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion suggested two fellow Strikeforce veterans as potential opponents for his next fight.
"I think I'm going to get a win over Luke Rockhold or Tim Kennedy to get a bit closer to a title shot," Mousasi said. "I'm not calling anyone out but I'm sure I'll get a winner."
He would later clarify in the post-fight press conference that he was interested in those two competitors simply because it would get him one step closer to a title shot.
"I'm not interested in them at all, but I think I get a win, I'm going to get a winner [next]," He explained. "Kennedy or Rockhold, anyone who is coming off of a win who is maybe a contender. So that is why I think I will get one of those guys, but I don't know. I'm not challenging anyone."
