Because I know this won't interest most of you, I'm posting it as a fanpost.
Recently I made a big update to the format of my "List of Current UFC Fighters." I've added another table for "Inactive Fighters" or, more precisely put, those fighters who have either announced that they are taking a prolonged absence from the sport, or who have already been absent from the sport for more than a year.
Initially I intended to keep injured fighters off the list, as they usually have some general rehab date in mind, but as I assume that this will stay a fairly fluid project, I don't think there's much harm in including fighters who have been sidelined by injury for more than a year with no expected date of return. When's Kid Yamamoto coming back? This year, next year, tomorrow? Who knows?
If an inactive fighter suddenly pops up with a bout announcement, they will be reinserted to their respective division, if they officially retire, they'll be added to the list of "Recent Cuts." Until then, they will remain in a sort of organizational purgatory.
As a fan of keeping everyone aware of everything, I'm not a big fan of this, because it will mean that some fighters who are out for a long stretch may get a bit left behind, forgotten even. But, the truth is that the current roster is so big, and the goal of this project has always been to give fans as current as possible a list of those fighters in the UFC, that it only makes sense to start weeding out those fighters who really can't be expected to fight anytime soon and haven't fought anytime recently.
Check it out here, and tell me if you think it's the worst idea ever in the comments of this fanpost. I promise I'll listen if not necessarily act.
