Video: Khabib Nurmagomedov has heartfelt reunion with former training partner

David Manning-USA TODAY Sports

The UFC's Khabib Nurmagomedov could barely contain himself when he ran into an old training partner from his youth.

By now, most of us have seen this classic footage of a boyhood Khabib Nurmagomedov wrestling a bear cub. If you haven't seen it, be sure to go read Coach Mike's incredible technical breakdown of the great wrestling on display from Khabib's ursine foe. All told it's the kind of story that legends are made of; tales of a brawny child grappling monstrous beasts in his rural homeland. It appears, however, that time and money haven't changed the Dagestani fighter as he recently posted a reunion of sorts on Instagram. It may not be the same bear, but if not, it's certainly a reunion in spirit.

I'll admit that the whole thing loses a bit of its luster the second time around. What was originally the carefree antics of a kid wrestling with someone's pet, now have a bit more of an animal cruelty feeling. As Khabib, no longer a clueless child, should know better than to keep a wild animal chained up in his back yard, or spend a lot of time with others who would do such a thing. It was fun the first time, and it remains fun in spirit, but I'd be lying if I said I'd like to see more of this.
