It appears that Anthony Johnson's big win over Phil Davis had a lot of influence with the SB Nation rankings panel, as did Jon Jones' successful title defense over Glover Teixeira. Obviously Jones wasn't going anywhere and is still in the number one spot, but Glover sure took a tumble despite going all five rounds with the champ. There's also an odd three-way tie for the final spot on our list.
As usual, our panel consists of two members from each of the three SB Nation MMA sites - Ariel Helwani and Dave Doyle from MMA Fighting; Thomas Myers and Alex Giardini from MMA Mania; and finally, Dallas Winston and yours truly from Bloody Elbow. Here's the usual fancy chart:
(Scoring: Fighters are given 10 points for a first-place vote, nine points for a second, etc., down to one point for 10th place. The results are then tallied up and presented here. Official SB Nation rankings policy: Fighters under commission suspension are ineligible to be ranked during the duration of their suspension or if they have licensing issues. At the moment, this does not affect any fighters generally considered in the discussion for a top 10 light heavyweight spot).
As expected, Jones was the unanimous choice for the top spot. Alexander Gustafsson, Jones' next opponent, unanimously held the second spot once again. With Glover's loss he dropped from three to five, with both Rashad Evans and Daniel Cormier passing him.
Rumble entered the list for the first time at number six with his win over Davis, which dropped him down one spot to seven. Dan Henderson was the last guy to receive votes from all six panelists and is currently at number eight. Chael Sonnen sits at nine with one panelist leaving him off completely, while Ryan Bader, Emanuel Newton, and Vitor Belfort all tied for 10 with a small amount of points. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Mauricio Rua also received votes.
