Join us tonight for episode 7 of The Ultimate Fighter: Team Edgar vs. Team Penn. The Ultimate Fighter airs on Fox Sports 1 starting at 10:00 p.m. ET. We'll have TUF discussion, right here at Bloody Elbow.
Last week was likely what will be the most talked about fight of the season - Roger Zapata's highly controversial decision win over Ian Stephens. That fight, with its point deduction and confusing ending, sparked quite a bit of controversy, and if Dana White is to be believed, it even led to Keith Kizer's departure from the NSAC. I don't expect to see much fallout on this week's show, but it will be interesting to see if anything comes up.
On we go to this week and tonight's fight:
Patrick Walsh is a training partner of UFC fighter John Howard.Walsh has collegiate wrestling experience and used it well to get into the house. That wrestling forms the basis of his game, as he uses nice takedowns and slams and has a good offensive top game. He's also competed in grappling competitions, augmenting his wrestling with submissions. As a result, he is able to stop opponents on the mat or wrestle his way to a win. Berzin has good jiu jitsu credentials which he showed off nicely in his first fight, so should be able to defend off his back well. But it's the stand-up game where he will have the greater advantage. Berzin is pretty good on his feet (though his one loss did come via standing KO) and will likely try to engage the wrestler Walsh in a kickboxing battle. He also has long limbs for a reach advantage, plus good takedown defense with a nice sprawl, all of which give him an advantage in this particular match-up. Overall, Berzin is the smart pick and I think he takes it, but Walsh's wrestling could play spoiler. It's definitely a close, intriguing fight.
