Matt Brown vs. Robbie Lawler to headline UFC on Fox 12

Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

A welterweight battle between Robbie Lawler and Matt Brown will be the headliner for the UFC on Fox 12 event in San Jose in July.

Robbie Lawler won't be getting a title shot next, but a win at UFC on Fox 12 might get him back to one. And his opponent might just be in line for one as well if he can knock Lawler off his perch. Who is that opponent? Matt Brown. They'll meet at UFC on Fox 12 on July 26th according to UFC president Dana White on Twitter:

Lawler (23-10, 1 NC) has revitalized his career with a return to welterweight in the UFC, going 4-1 since his return. His only loss was a close one to Johny Hendricks in a 170-pound title fight earlier this year. He is coming off a third-round stoppage win over Jake Ellenberger this past weekend at UFC 173.

Brown (19-11) ran his winning streak to seven with a TKO win over Erick Silva at a recent UFC Fight Night event in Cincinnati. While his streak has been very impressive, he hasn't knocked off a truly elite fighter yet and this is his big chance.

The card will take place in the HP Pavilion in San Jose. The co-main event will see Antonio Rogerio Nogueira taking on Anthony Johnson in a light heavyweight fight.
