The former Bellator middleweight champion sent out a tweet to Matt Brown, where he informed him that considering he had never defeated a former champion or even a Top 10 fighter, he was not worthy of a UFC title shot.
Matt Brown's hype train ran rampant a couple of weeks back following his ‘Fight of the Year' candidate match against Erick Silva at UFC Fight Night: Cincinnati. The win extended his streak to seven straight victories, with six T/Kos amongst them. Even UFC President Dana White admitted that Brown was now "in the mix" for a title shot in the talent-filled welterweight division.
While Brown is undoubtedly easing his way to a title shot, many expect him to face a Top 10 competitor before he finally earns the title shot. One of the suggested opponents was Lombard, who is ranked just one spot ahead of him in the rankings at No. 6. The Cuban-native appears to be interested in the match-up, or else he would not have approached Brown via twitter.
It will be interesting to see if the UFC decides to put this fight together, as it is one of the few that would arguably propel Brown to a coveted title shot.
