The Bellator PPV preliminary card on Spike TV just completed, but during the broadcast there was an ... interesting moment to say the least, regarding Muhammed Lawal's live interview with color commentator Jimmy Smith. Lawal was asked about tonight's main event bout against Quinton Jackson, and while the confidence that he would beat Rampage was expected, he took it a step further by saying Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney was "dick riding" Jackson. Here's the full quote via Ariel Helwani:
Lawal on TV right now: "I came out here to beat Rampage and stop all the d*ck-riding that Bjorn be doing." Then awkward silence. Cut away.— Ariel Helwani (@arielhelwani) May 18, 2014
The audio cut out on Smith's end, with Smith saying he couldn't hear him, and they cut to commercial seconds later. After the break, they did a "Take 2" with Lawal and it yielded virtually the same responses sans profanities and "audio difficulties".
Rebney did not bring the interview up during Bellator's version of the UFC's Dana White-Joe Rogan shoutfest. I shudder to think what would happen if Dana White was badmouthed on live TV by one of his own fighters, and that's pretty much what happened on the Spike TV broadcast.
Stay tuned for the PPV main card, which you can follow along here.
