We've got ourselves a new fight announced for the upcoming summer Fox card in San Jose, CA. Featherweights Clay Guida and Dennis Bermudez will face each other on July 26th in a battle of top 10 fighters, with Bermudez looking to add to his six-fight winning streak. The UFC confirmed the news with FoxSports.com earlier today:
Guida (31-14) snapped out of a 1-3 skid with a FOTN decision win over Tatsuya Kawajiri in Abu Dhabi last month. The big moment of Guida's victory was clearly the early knockdown, as he's never been known for solid boxing skills or powerful punching. Guida is 2-1 at featherweight and ranked 7th. He'd been under scrutiny after the underwhelming and tepid showings against Gray Maynard and Hatsu Hioki, but the Kawajiri fight was certainly entertaining and one of the best performances Guida has had in quite some time.
Bermudez (13-3) has lost just once in the UFC, tapping out to an armbar against Diego Brandao in an absolutely thrilling TUF 14 Finale. Since then, he's racked up the wins and looked outstanding in his dominant 3rd round TKO of Jimy Hettes at UFC 171 in March. The native of Long Island was finally ranked in the top 10 after beating Hettes, and this is definitely a step up in competition.
