When former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski re-signed with the UFC late last month a lot of people were surprised. After all, Arlovski's career seemed stalled in 2011 when he lost four in a row. But a recent resurgence was enough for Dana White and The Pitbull was brought in to face Brendan Schaub at UFC 174.
But what about his biggest nemesis?
While Arlovski has had a decent last two years, fellow former champ Tim Sylvia has not. Despite that, the UFC's first event in Sylvia's home state during the summer led him to once again campaign for a slot back in the organization where he had the most success. Apparently that won't be the case though, as Sylvia actually admitted that Dana White has blocked him on Twitter.
When the boss was asked about the difference between the two men, he started with Sylvia (via MMA Junkie):
"Tim Sylvia, I think he's 0-3-1 in his last four fights. It'd be tough to bring him in to the UFC with that outside the UFC."
This is true. Sylvia (31-10, 1 NC) hasn't won a bout since a 12-second TKO in mid-2012...that actually went down in Maine. White was more positive about Arlovski:
"He's on a win streak. I like him. I have a lot of respect for him and his people.
"He left the UFC to go fight somewhere else. People think that because he did that, I have some - I never, ever fault somebody for trying to better their life, and he had a better deal. This ain't f-ing Bellator. A guy tries to better his life, we're not going to try to destroy the guy and sue him to death and hold up his career and do that."
Arlovski (21-10, 1 NC) is 6-1 with 1 NC in his last eight. His only loss came to Anthony Johnson in World Series of Fighting.
So while things don't look good for Sylvia at this point, anything's possible. The UFC Fight Night event in question will go down in Bangor's Cross Insurance Center on August 16th.
