The co-main event of UFC Fight Night: Brown vs. Silva pitted middleweight strikers Constantinos Philippou and Lorenz Larkin in a battle of men coming off of tough losses on the same card back in January. Philippou was on a two-fight losing skid and sliding further down the ranks of the 185 lbs division.
Both guys came out working a frenetic pace, as Larkin upped his volume and Philippou looked for the knockout. It was exciting from the start and they were each able to get their licks in whether via uppercut, a body kick, or a hook. However, the fight came to a dramatic halt when Philippou uncorked a right hand that stunned Larkin, then quickly completed the combination with a left hook and another right hand that put Larkin out cold on the canvas. Philippou gets the KO win at 3:47 of round 1.
As mentioned earlier, Philippou (13-4, 1 NC) ends his losing streak and gets a very big finish of a game opponent. Larkin (14-3, 1 NC) is now just 1-3 in his last 4 and experiences his first stoppage loss in the UFC. It wasn't too long ago that Larkin soundly defeated Robbie Lawler in Strikeforce.
It's been a wicked night of fights with knockouts aplenty, and we could see one in the main event. Follow Bloody Elbow's play-by-play of Matt Brown/Erick Silva here.
