The marquee lightweight fight at UFC Fight Night: Brown vs. Silva was unquestionably Erik Koch versus Daron Cruickshank. Both men are considered highly entertaining and dangerous strikers, and the likelihood of a thriller was high. Koch, a former featherweight top contender now back at 155 lbs, was the considerable favorite over Cruickshank, but once again the underdog prevailed.
"The Detroit Superstar" threw a right high kick on Koch but then quickly followed up with a left high kick that sent Koch sprawling to the canvas, and it looked like Koch went out after a follow-up right hand. The ref didn't stop the fight there, and Cruickshank proceeded to throw a series of unanswered punches and elbows to force the stoppage at 3:21 of round 1.
Koch (14-4) is now 1-3 in his last 4 while Cruickshank (15-4) is 3-1 in his last 4 and picks up arguably the biggest win of his career. Big result for the lightweight division as Cruickshank once again flashes his striking skills and finishing ability.
