Upcoming UFC schedule includes debut in Maine and two stops in Brazil

Jason Silva-USA TODAY Sports

You can't achieve world domination without going to Maine.

Good news for UFC fans in the Northeastern US region, as Dana White announced on Thursday that they'll be headed to Bangor, Maine on August 16th as part of UFC Fight Night on Fox Sports 1:

I know you're wondering why the UFC is going to Maine. The only notable MMA fighters from that area are Tim Sylvia, who pretty much has no chance of coming back unless he actually wins some fights (which he hasn't in 2 years), and Marcus Davis, who is in Bellator. So that essentially leaves you with booking guys from the New England area and perhaps NY/NJ, which is the most logical next step aside from signing any newcomers from the region.

Meanwhile, you can pencil in a September 13th UFN for Brasilia, and UFC 179 for Rio de Janeiro on October 25th. MMA Fighting and Tatame reported those respective dates.

If you're keeping score, the number of UFC events run this year (counting tonight's card in Cincy) is at 15. There are 27 confirmed upcoming shows, but I think it's reasonable to expect a few more to get the final 2014 event total nearer to 50. Every week is fight week, don't ya know?!
