UFC targeting Mark Hunt vs. Roy Nelson in Saitama, Japan

UFC Insider Ariel Helwani reported on UFC Tonight that the promotion is targeting a Mark Hunt vs Roy Nelson match-up for a September show in Japan.

The UFC is still targeting a potential heavyweight clash between Roy Nelson and Mark Hunt, according to UFC Tonight's Ariel Helwani.

While the promotion has yet to approach either fighter regarding the match-up, they are hoping to schedule the bout for the September card in Japan. The only uncertain variable in the equation is the length of time it will take for Nelson's hand to heal from surgery.

"I'm told the UFC wants to do Roy Nelson vs. Mark Hunt," Helwani stated on UFC Tonight. "The fans would love this. We'll have to wait to see how Roy's hand heals after surgery. If all goes well, maybe they'll fight on the show September 20 in Japan."

This is a match-up that fans have requested for quite some time now. Both fighter possess one-punch KO power and equally durable chins, which generally makes for an exciting battle.

Nelson is coming off a spectacular knockout of Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira back at UFC Fight Night: Abu Dhabi, but managed to damage his hand at some point during the round.  The win broke a two-fight losing streak dating back to June, 2013.

Hunt has been sidelined since his ‘Fight of the Year' candidate match against Antonio Silva last December in Australia. The fight, which lasted all five rounds, was deemed a draw, and puts Hunt at 1-1-1 in his last three fights.

UFC Fight Night: Japan is scheduled to take place September 20 at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
