Coach Winkeljohn had big words of praise for Holly Holm following her second straight head kick KO to capture the Legacy FC women's bantamweight title. When asked about the possibility of seeing Holm fight Cris Cyborg sometime in the near future, Winkeljohn was very open to the idea. He spoke to Sherdog about her most recent fight and what it meant for her career going forward.
Kedzie talks pros and cons of training with men
UFC and Strikeforce veteran Julie Kedzie discusses the positive and negative aspects of training with men.
We're always open to something like that. You know what? Holly's at that point where a Cyborg that throws big bombs, great strong wrestling, is where Holly can go right now. And she's about a year away from, I think, beating anybody in the world, anywhere. It's just gonna take a little work, but we're ready for some big fights.
I think Cyborg could be a big money fight. We could do a pay-per-view fight and make some money off it. But, we're going to talk to the UFC again. At the end of the day, Holly wants to fight the best people out there. So, whether that be Cyborg or Ronda Rousey or whoever has the title by the time Holly gets there and gets a few more fights under her belt, Holly's ready for the challenge.
Unfortunately, those plans may be a bit delayed as Holm announced on her Twitter account that the broken arm suffered in her Legacy FC bout will require surgery. No time table has been given for her recovery, but it's probably unlikely we see any kind of quick turnaround.
After talking to the orthopedic surgeon, we've decided surgery will give the best result. So surgery is for tomorrow. Keep ya posted!— Holly Holm (@_HOLLYHOLM) April 8, 2014
This also pretty much takes Holm off the table in terms of potential challengers for Ronda Rousey in the immediate future. With Cat Zingano not expected back until late summer, it may be a few months until we see the women's bantamweight title defended again.
