Melvin Guillard signs with World Series of Fighting, says ‘it’s time to make some real money’

Mark J. Rebilas-US PRESSWIRE

Former UFC lightweight competitor Melvin Guillard has officially signed with WSOF and is expected to make his debut in the summer.

Following his release from the UFC last month, many were wondering which promotion Melvin Guillard would offer his services to. Now it appears he has officially signed a multi-fight contract with Wold Series of Fighting.

Bleacher Report broke the news on Monday evening.

"The Young Assassin" was released from his UFC contract following a unanimous decision loss to Michael Johnson back at UFC Fight Night: Gustafsson vs. Manuwa. Guillard went 12-9 (1 NC) inside the octagon, yet has not managed consecutive wins since July 2011. He holds notable victories over Jeremy Stephens, Dennis Siver, Gleison Tibau and Evan Dunham.

While the terms of his contract were not revealed, it appears that Guillard is excited about the prospect of making "real money."

"We are pleased and excited to announce to the MMA world that Melvin Guillard has a new home at the World Series of Fighting," WSOF president Ray Sefo said.

While his debut date is yet to be announced, Guillard is expected to first appearance under the WSOF banner in the summer.
