WWE WrestleMania XXX Post-Show Analysis, Reaction

Daniel Bryan is the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. - Mike Mastrandrea

As one era ended at WrestleMania XXX, another one began. It might've been the end of the road for The Undertaker, defeated by Brock Lesnar, but the Daniel Bryan era could be upon us.

Sunday at WWE WrestleMania XXX, one era ended, but another one began.

The Undertaker's vaunted WrestleMania undefeated streak came to an end at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, as former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar pinned the WWE legend following a third F5, leaving the sold-out crowd in New Orleans in stunned silence.

But at the end of the night, confetti rained from the sky as a new era began. Daniel Bryan overcame all the odds to capture the WWE World Heavyweight Championship after beating Triple H earlier in the night. He made Batista tap out to the Yes Lock in a match where Bryan was nearly taken out on a stretcher, and where he was nearly screwed out of the opportunity by Triple H, Stephanie McMahon and crooked referee Scott Armstrong.

Lesnar Wins Big

Nobody expected Brock Lesnar to beat The Undertaker. In a match that was a bit underwhelming, the crowd was completely stunned when the referee's hand hit the mat for the third time, no roar, no nothing. Just silence. No music. No nothing. Even Paul Heyman and Lesnar were stunned.

To me, Lesnar's return to WWE has been handled haphazardly. He shouldn't have lost to John Cena, nor should he have lost to Triple H. Nobody bought that Lesnar would win this. When he did, the crowd was angry. Lesnar, though, picked up one of the most shocking wins in the history of professional wrestling, one that will be talked about for a long time.

I have to believe this is it for The Undertaker, though. The way it was played up after the match, it would appear that was the case. In professional wrestling, you usually lose on the way out, and I see no reason for The Undertaker to lose unless that was the case. If so, it was a great career, one of the greatest of all time.

The Yes Era Begins

While The Undertaker's career might be coming to an end, Daniel Bryan's appears to be reaching the top. Bryan defeated Triple H in the opening match to earn his spot in the main event, but after the first match, Triple H attacked Bryan, further injuring Bryan's shoulder. Randy Orton and Batista keyed on that and worked together to try to eliminate Bryan, including a double team Batista Bomb/RKO through the Spanish announce table. But Bryan fired back and, after Batista hit Orton with the Batista Bomb, Bryan hit the flying knee and then made Batista tap to the Yes Lock.

Bryan celebrated with both belts with fireworks going off and confetti raining down from the ceiling.

This was a culmination of years of work for Bryan. He had two cups of coffee with the title last year, but this should be his first real reign. It's well deserved and WWE did the right thing here. This was the only way to end WrestleMania XXX.

Other Highlights

The opening of the show was amazing. Host Hulk Hogan came down and was quickly joined by Stone Cold Steve Austin and then The Rock. This was truly incredible. The roof almost blew off the Superdome. This was worth the price of admission.

Cesaro won the 30-Man Over the Top Rope Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, last eliminating the Big Show. This was something else. Cesaro slipped out of a throw attempt, and then hoisted the nearly 500-pound Big Show and body slammed him over the top rope to the floor to win. Then he lifted the 100-plus-pound trophy after. Cesaro is a magnificent wrestler and I really hope this is his launching point.

John Cena beat Bray Wyatt. This was someone unexpected to me. I was thinking Wyatt would get the big win, but in the end, Cena got it done. Hmmm. I'd bet Wyatt wins a rematch.

All-in-all, I think this goes down as one of the best WrestleManias of all time. From top-to-bottom, this was a strong show. Nothing was bad. Underwhelming, yes, but certainly not bad. This was one you'll watch again and again.

And a friendly reminder, fight fans, if you complain about WWE coverage being on an MMA blog, per Kid Nate, you will be warned and then banned.
