It only took minutes into the first round for Vitaly Minakov to land a knee to the groin of Kongo and lose a point due to a referee deduction. Minakov still seemed to have won the round after landing a thudding right that dropped Kongo and allowed him to try for a leg lock.
Oh, and the low blow led to this bit of magic:
Kongo landed a bit in round two but again ended up on the ground in danger when Minakov was able to work to back control before the round ended.
It was back to old Kongo tricks in round four as he picked up his sixth and (so Herb Dean claimed) final warning for grabbing Minakov's shorts. Still, it was the first round where Kongo controlled the action and clearly won the round as Minakov appeared to tire.
Still, round 5 was all Minakov as he ended up in mount and pounded away trying for a finish that did not come.
The judges got it right when it came to the official scorecards, all three giving Minakov the fight 48-46. It was a rather dreadful affair that was met with much mocking on Twitter.
