Boxing Frame-by-Frame: Marcos Maidana, Orchestrated Violence

BE's striking specialist Connor Ruebusch breaks down the intelligent yet insane approach of Marcos Maidana, who challenges Floyd Mayweather Jr. this Saturday.

Most boxing fans and pundits aren't giving Marcos Maidana much of a chance against Floyd Mayweather in this Saturday's highly anticipated fight, which Showtime has dubbed "The Moment." It's not surprising, and it's definitely not wrong. Floyd Mayweather is among the greatest boxers of all time in terms of pure craft in the ring, and his 45-0 record speaks for itself. We've seen him fight brawlers before and dismantle them with ease, so this one seems like a no-brainer.

If you have troubles with the player you can watch it on YouTube.

But is Maidana just a brawler?

He can brawl, for sure, and he has the power to back it up. However, he's also developing a style under trainer Robert Garcia that makes him a much more dangerous foe than ever before.

Today's video aims to analyze those adjustments that Maidana and Garcia have made, including Maidana's increased use of the jab, his improved stance, and his ability to knock opponents out without being punched in the face a million times--though he's still the type of fighter who will take that kind of punishment just to get to his target.
