Anthony Johnson won't fight at heavyweight in the UFC, says he is a ‘little guy’ compared to the rest of the division

Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Following his upset victory over Phil Davis at UFC 172, Anthony Johnson confirmed that he would not be attempting a move to heavyweight in the UFC.

"Rumble" may have made a fantastic return to the octagon, but he is not considering a potential move to heavyweight in the UFC.

Anthony Johnson earned the biggest win of his career to date when he dominated Phil Davis en route to a unanimous decision at UFC 172. The victory extended his streak to seven consecutive wins, stretching back to a submission loss to Vitor Belfort back at UFC 142.

During his stint outside of the promotion, Johnson fought his last two fights before Phil Davis at heavyweight, defeating former UFC champ Andre Arlovski via unanimous decision, while later picking up a first round KO against Mike Kyle at WSOF 8.

When asked if he would consider taking heavyweight fights again, Johnson made it clear that he has no intention of facing anyone from that division in the UFC.

"Not in the UFC. I mean you've got guys like Cain [Velasquez], Fabricio Werdum, Travis Browne and Junior dos Santos - I'm a little guy.

"I'm going to stay with the medium sized guys at 205lb. Those heavyweights are just too big for me."

While Johnson now holds a victory over the No. 4 ranked light heavyweight, he stated last night that he thinks he still has a lot of work to do before he becomes a contender for Jon Jones' title.
