In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, Julianna Pena shed some light on her injury and how it happened, and turns out she may have over-reacted.
"I think that I'm a girl, and I was a block away from the hospital from my gym. I shouldn't have had the phone in my hand when I was screaming in an intense amount of pain. I thought it was a good idea at the time, and it wasn't. So, I think that just explaining things in the heat of the moment of how they really were was super overwhelming for both me and Dana."
"I was wrestling, you know, you take a risk every time you step on the mat when you're training. I was on my second workout of the day and I was late, so when we got on the mat it was just a fight for your life time of deal. One thing lead to another, I think we were grappling for a minute before my knee tore out. It was just one of those freak accidents that happen. Mistakes were made and lessons were learned."
As for her injury she says that she will be out "6 months to a year" as opposed to initial reports of up to two years out.
