To defend his actions on TUF: Brazil, Wanderlei Silva has chosen to play the race card.
Following the infamous brawl that took place in the sixth episode of The Ultimate Fighter Brasil, Wanderlei Silva took to Instagram to explain his actions. The former PRIDE champion told his fans that Chael Sonnen is a "racist" and that he simply does not deserve the respect of fans.
"This guy is a racist and he doesn't deserve our respect," Silva wrote on his Instagram page. "I wouldn't be mad (at him) if I had no reasons to be."
Silva is apparently aiming to regain the support of the Brazilian fans that were less than impressed by his actions as well as those of his assistant coach Andre Dida.
"Now, if you want to cheer for him be my guest, you deserve my respect. I don't agree with him and I think we should be united this time. We're stronger together."
The Sonnen vs. Silva match-up was originally scheduled to take place on May 31. It was later moved to UFC 175 on July 5, after Silva injured his back in the brawl on the show.
