Opening up the main card broadcast for UFC on FOX 11, Middleweight Brad Tavares took on former Olympian Yoel Romero. Romero stole the show with a one-sided unanimous decision. He tossed the Hawaiian fighter repeatedly and landed some devastating blows on the feet to secure his third consecutive UFC win in as many fights.
After a few tentative exchanges at range, Romero leaped in to rand a big left hook that hurt Tavares. Yoel followed up with a quick combination in range and ended up on top when Tavares shot for a takedown. A big toss from Romero put Tavares back on the mat. Tavares escaped the clinch and shook Romero with a hook of his own, but couldn't sustain the offense before getting taken down.
Romero scored early in the second round with an early takedown. Tavares escaped and returned to his feet but caught a big standing elbow that opened a leaking cut on his hairline. Romero won a whizzer war and came out with a big left hand before clinching back up. Romero started looking tired toward the end of the round but still managed to land some hard blows.
The final round started off much slower than the previous two. Ravares was understandably more hesitant to engage, but managed to land a few decent combos from the outside. At the three minute mark, Romero charged in for another big slam. He couldn't do much damage before Tavares escaped and returned to striking range. With only seconds remaining Romero hit one more toss to close out the round and the fight.
